2021 Kia K5 Overview

On 9/1 Kia officially launched the successor of Optima - K5. A few days before that they live streamed an event that introduced the world to the new K5. The main event included two K5s performing synchronized jumps off two head-to-head ramps, narrowly missing each other as they sailed over a wide gap. Simultaneously, a 3rd K5 did a 180 in the space between the ramps, as the two K5s soared above.  If you missed the live stream of the K5 don't worry- you can watch it below. It's well worth it

Kia K5 Unleashed the Uncompromising Spirit of the Sedan

No doubt about that. The all-new K5 looks sporty and edgy. No big deal you might think and you will be mistaken. It takes a lot of courage to go against the grain. It looks like SUVs are all the rage these days. Ford even announced a while ago that they will discontinue making them Kia double downed on them. The Korean manufacturer is reinvigorating a category that has lost its excitement.

Go Ahead and Stare - Kia K5 Exterior:

Let's be honest. Sedans in general are not known for head turning looks. The new Kia K5 is about to change that, though. It's longer and lower than the Optima it replaces, giving it a substantially sportier stance, but its appeal also lies in the details.

The full-width lighting at the back of the midsize sedan looks fantastic but so does the the dramatic LED DRLs and the face with the broader grille.

The base LX has features like LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a Hyper Silver front grille, whereas the top-spec GT has 19-inch wheels and bespoke styling elements shared with the GT-Line. A panoramic sunroof and front LED fog lights are fitted to certain trims.

In short - your appearance won't go unnoticed no matter where you go. Hurry, be one of the first to drive the new Kia K5 in Chicago - visit our Kia dealership in Elmhurst for great deals.

Kia K5 Exterior Colors

As we already mentioned above, the all-new Kia K5 looks great. One of the reasons for that is the number of exterior colors - 8 in total:

  • Glacial White
  • Pearl Everlasting Silver
  • Wolf Gray
  • Gravity Gray
  • Passion Red Tint Coat
  • Sapphire Blue
  • Crystal Beige
  • Ebony Black

The LX base is available in Everlasting Silver, Passion Red Tintcoat, or Ebony Black. For another $445 you can get your new Kia K5 for sale in Chicago in Glacial White Pearl. Any other color can only be paired with a more expensive trim. On the LXS, you can go for Crystal Beige or Gravity Gray, while the GT-Line avails Wolf Gray or Sapphire Blue.

Kia K5 Interior

The K5's cabin design reminds of higher priced European sedans in the luxury segment with its horizontal theme and how the center console is gently tilted towards the driver. Sure, the all-new Kia K5 doesn't have the interior of BMW 3 Series or Audi A4. Regardless, it does a great job of surpassing most if not all other midsize sedans and that's not an easy feat.

Features like remote keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, driver attention warning, and lane keeping assist are standard on the basic LX trim. If you are willing to spend a little more for one of the higher trims you can enjoy features like remote start, synthetic leather upholstery, and power-adjustable seats that evoke a more upscale feel. Safe exit assist, Cruise control with stop and go and rear parking sensors are also available. With all that being said, Kia did a pretty good job with the K5 interior.

K5 Trunk and Cargo Space

The all-new Kia K5 for sale in Chicago has 16 cubic feet of space. That's almost as much as the leader when it comes to cargo space - Honda Accord has - 16.7 cubic feet of space. The K5 also has 60/40-split folding rear seats, which are standard on all but the K5 LX trim. This feature will come handy any time you need to haul multiple passengers and large amounts of cargo.

The twin cupholders alongside the shift lever help with storing small-item in the cabin. The center armrest storage compartment is well-sized as well. Available is a wireless charging pad for your phone, which is removable in case you buy a larger phone in the future. One thing we don't like about the Kia K5 is the door pockets. Why? Because the armrest hinders the easy storage of longer bottles. At the same time we realize that that might not be a big deal for most potential buyers. All versions of the 2021 Kia K5 have front seatback pockets. All but the base LX trim have a fold-down rear center armrest with cupholders.

Kia K5 Infotainment Features

When it comes to infotainment features Kia doesn't disappoint. All K5 trims comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen that features wireless support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Unlike most cars, the system can also connect to two Bluetooth devices instead of one. A 10.25-inch touchscreen (available as an option on the GT-Line, EX, and GT models) adds split-screen functionality, but doesn't have the wireless ability for CarPlay/Android.

Both displays feature clear graphics and intuitive controls. On the EX and GT, a Bose Premium sound system is available with 12 speakers in place of the standard 6. If you choose the Bose system, you will also get a unique Sounds of Nature feature. Wondering what that is? The Sounds of Nature feature plays unique soundtracks like a rainforest, ocean, or fireplace.

Kia's UVO telematics (the system that allows users to make hands-free calls on their smartphone, stream music, navigate to saved points of interest, and perform vehicle diagnostics with the use of voice commands) now features two connected user profiles tied to the seat position, outside mirror placement, and favorite radio stations.

Kia K5 Main Safety Features

Kia doesn't disappoint in the safety department, either. The 9 airbags are there to protect front and rear-seat occupants, including curtain airbags, rear side airbags, and a driver's knee airbag. Also standard in the 2021 Kia K5 for sale in Chicago are the following safety features:

  • Electronic stability control
  • traction control
  • hill start assist control
  • tire pressure monitoring
K5's range of standard driver-assist technologies includes:
  • rearview camera with dynamic gridlines
  • forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection
  • driver attention warning
  • lane departure alert
  • lane-keeping assist
  • lane following assist
  • high beam assist
  • rear occupant alert.
Blind-spot collision-avoidance assist and rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist are standard on all but the Kia K5 LX model. The K5 EX model alone offers rear parking sensors as standard. The rear parking sensors are optional on the Kia K5 GT, too. From the Kia K5 GT-Line and above, navigation-based smart cruise control, cyclist detection, highway driving assist and smart cruise control with stop & go are all available.

Kia K5 Performance

The 2021 Kia K5's base engine is a 1.6-liter turbo-four with 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The 2021 Kia K5 GT for sale in Chicago gets a 2.5-liter turbo with 290 hp and 311 lb-ft. All K5 models have an 8-speed gearbox, but whereas the 1.6L is mated with a torque converter automatic, the 2.5L gets an eight-speed dual-clutch. All 2021 Kia K5 models direct power to the front wheels, but select 1.6L versions can be equipped with AWD, which isn't available with the bigger engine.

The 1.6L K5 can accelerate to 60 mph in around 8 seconds, which isn't remarkable but is fair for the sedan's outputs. The K5 GT model, with its 2.5L, should prove significantly quicker. However, it would need to match the most potent Honda Accord, which gets to 60 in less than 6 seconds, to be considered among the midsize sedan segment elite performance options.

Is the New 2021 Kia K5 a Good Car for the Money

As stated earlier the all-new Kia K5 replaces the Optima. In that sense the midsize sedan doesn't feel like a radical departure. Regardless of its edgy look it is still a midsize sedan with 180 horsepower, so it's not going to feel like a premium luxury vehicle. That being said, in every little detail, Kia K5 has scored an A+ rating, making it feel like a segment leader. Whether it's the intuitive infotainment, the cleverly-placed wireless charger, or just how well-laid out the cabin is, the 2021 Kia K5 has got everything right.

2021 Kia K5 Price

And last buy not least, the all-new Kia K5 for sale in Chicago is priced just right - the base K5 LX model begins at an MSRP of $23,490, less than Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The Kia K5 LXS model costs $24,490, the K5 GT-Line is $25,390, and the K5 EX model sells for $27,990. The 2021 Kia K5 GT costs $30,490, which is several thousand dollars less than the fully loaded Accord or Camry costs. If you want to drive a great looking sedan without breaking the bank you definitely need to consider the all-new 2021 Kia K5 for sale in Chicago.
